As new information or new pages are added, they will be listed below (newest to oldest).
In most cases you will have the option to see the "whole thing" or just the updated page. Watch for the SEE ALL links to
get to the whole section. Efforts continue to improve navigation and data display. Unless new data is added this activity will
not be mentioned in weekly updates.
Something new will be added with some updates this year. In the absence of our quarterly, the AAFA ACTION, we may add more
or narrative to explain what is being updated, to make it more meaningful, or to inform, educate or maybe even inspire the visitor.
The commentary website really is where the fun is with AAFA now. You can be a part of it.

NEW MEMBERS SEE ALL
Ahnentafels are in process for several that are missing, including:
In the fall 1999 issue of the AAFA quarterly, in her "Editor's Farewell," Pamela
Alford Thompson kicked off what came to be known as the "Getting To Know" (GTK)
articles for members. They were short autobiographical (some biographical) pieces,
usually well illustrated with photographs. About 14 articles were published over
the next couple of years and then the program fizzled. We want to bring that back
and we depend upon you to help us by submitting a GTK article for you and perhaps
for one of your Alford ancestors. In those cases where an "Alford" spouse is also
actively involved in the association, we would like one from her or him.
Clicking SEE ALL above will take you to a list of all GTK articles submitted.

MEETING INFORMATION SEE ALL
This section will be used for any meeting information posted to the site. That will include updates
on future meetings and catch-up on past meetings. As of this report the meetings page does include
information about each of the meetings since our first in Atlanta in 1988. In most cases now there is
only a brief web report and a copy of the program printed and distributed to all participants for the
applicable meeting. In a few cases there is a copy of the meeting report published in the quarterly
and even fewer cases of special photo pages published in the quarterly. For technicl reasons most of
these leave something to be desired. We will upgrade and add as we can from here on.
MEMBER AHNENTAFELSSEE ALL
The following are members whose joined the association for whom we failed to announce the posting of
their ahnentafel here on the updates page. Most were posted to the members list in a more timely manner.
THIS ONE MAY TAKE A FEW DAYS TO COMPLETE.
AAFA #1100 George Washington Alford III - of branch ISA782NC/JAM687VA
AAFA Member #1189, James William "J.J." Johnson, has submitted more articles. He actually
pointed out two that had been published in AAFA issue #83 and never extracted and added
to his page, plus he sent two "new" articles previously published in his newsletter. See
them all at: Articles by James Johnson.
Texas Updated

CEMETERY UPDATES SEE ALL
These updates are part of the reconciliation effort to ensure that we have a grave
record for each obituary in the obituary files.
If you like to help with this effort, email the Project Manager.
There are more to come, as several States have major update projects ongoing.
NOTE: If you would like to help as a State
Cemetery Project Officer, or as a member of a State Cemetery Project team, please
let us know by email to:
AAFA, Attn: Wayne Parrish.
Georgia Updated
Includes a number of new graves in Harris and Hart Counties. Most of the Hart County entries
are from the Lodwick Alford 1802 SC family branch.
Meeting Photographs
Photgraphs have not been a feature here on the updates page in the past because of the way we
have them filed or arranged on the website. They are all part of much more meeting stuff on
the meetings page and not easy to link directly to. We are making some changes and will be
adding more pictures from meetings past. None of you have complained before, and we have been
publishing meeting photos in the quarterly and/or on the website for about 25 years. If you
object to our posting yours please let us know. The first set or file from the 2012 Houston
meeting was part of the last quarterly and the photo pages posted at the meetings page some
time ago. The second set, not published in the quarterly are also linked below. Stand by for
more new pictures from old meetings in the near future.

photos and additional information. Don't miss Katherine's Alford "crochets"!
CEMETERY RECORDS SEE ALL
We have updated the cemetery records for Illinois, North Carolina, Oregon, and West Virginia, based
on the input received as of Jan 22. About a dozen interment records were received since that work
was completed. We will catch up soon. Some of these files are getting quite large so expect some
delay when some load.
AAFA #0961s Edith Elizabeth "Betty" Humann Alford, wife of Jack Leland Alford
MEMBER MEMORIES
Some of the most precious things that some of us have are memories. They are great and oh so frail. When we
go, they go - they are such an important part of our family and Alford history. We continue asking you to
please record some of your memories and share with us. Here are two that were recorded some time ago.
NELLIE, A Book of Remembrance
Ruth Robinson Sample, AAFA #1056, is a descendant of John Alford 1786 NC.
She provided this in one segment of her book. We will be adding more.
COURT RECORDS
Surprisingly, we have not had this group before, but we are revising the system to handle several of them.
This first one relates to an interesting situation in which the North Carolina Constitution was amended to
require special voting registration in an effort to keep African Americans from voting by using a grandfather
clause that allowed folks to vote based upon their ancestor. The result is that it provides some information
that helps us in determining relationships. See more about it via the link below. We will be making notations
in the genealogy updates to identify these folks.
AAFA GENEALOGIES SEE ALL
We are beginning to systematically update our very large collection of online genealogies. The first two are below.
In the first phase of each update, we will post all the information that has been added to the file since the last
posting. Instead of truncating the most recent generations to protect the privacy of the living, we will include
all persons in the file. For persons under age 100 who have no death date entered and are presumed living, all of
the data (birth, marriage, etc.) will be replaced with "data excluded."
In the next phase, still some time in the future, we will include links to applicable documents, photographs,
obituaries, etc. Most importantly, we will add corrections and changes that you send us.
KINCHEN b. 1812 NC.
This 102 kb file dated (and prepared) Jan 17 2013 replaces a 25 kb file dated Sep 26 2009. It has 11 pages compared
with 6 in the old; and includes 6 generations with 126 descendants vs 3 generations with 50 descendants before.
THOMAS b. 1795 NC.
Comparing new vs old data: generations 7 - 3, descendants 327 - 50, pages 21 - 6.
AAFA QUARTERLY SEE ALL
This is an historic event! The very last issue of AAFA ACTION - #98 - is now posted in two versions: one
mostly black & white and one with considerable color. You may read online, print or download (save) the file.
Some of you will be interested to know that it was decided just yesterday that we MIGHT continue with some type
of occasional AAFA publication. We would like to hear your ideas on the subject and will keep you posted here.
