Alford, 79, died Friday, April 4, 2003, at the Via-Christi-St. Francis
Hospital, Wichita.
She was born
March 24, 1924, at Lincoln, the daughter of Claude Crawford and Dottie Leota
(Bollier) Kerr. She attended the local schools and Lincoln High School.
Surviving are her
husband, Martin, of the home; two daughters, Judith Renea Life of Rogers, Ark.
and Barbara Ann Rairden of Abilene; three brothers, Claude E. Kerr of
Paramount, Calif., Donald E. Kerr of Concordia and Melvin D. Kerr of Park City;
two sisters, Nita Ilene Schaich and Lois Jean Hocker, both of Abilene; eight
grandchildren, four great grandchildren and other relatives.
Funeral services
will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at the Martin-Becker-Carlson
Funeral Home, 414 N.W. Third St., Abilene, with the Rev. Richard Palmer
officiating. Burial will be in the Abilene Cemetery. Friends may call until
time of the service.
The family of
Delores L. Alford suggests that friends may contribute to the YWCA Pool Fund,
Salina, in her memory. Contributions may be left at the funeral home.

ABILENE [Dickinson
Co.]—Funeral services for Delores Lee Alford, 79, of Abilene, [will be] held on
Wednesday at the Martin-Becker Funeral Home in Abilene. Mrs. Alford died on
April 4, 2003, at the Via Christi-St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.
Mrs. Alford was
born on March 24, 1924, at Lincoln, the daughter of Claude Crawford and Dottie
Leota Bollier Kerr. She grew up in Lincoln, where she attended school and
graduated from Lincoln High School. On December 19, 1940, she married Martin
G. Alford in Belleville. They lived in Concordia, Baxter Springs, Lyons,
Junction City, and Wichita before returning to Abilene in 1971. She was a
homemaker and worked as a bookkeeper. She was a partner with her husband at
H&R Block in Abilene for 15 years before retiring. She was a member of the
First Christian Church in Junction City, the Heritage Center in Abilene, the
Kansas State Historical Society, and the auxiliaries of the Veterans of Foreign
Wars and the American Legion.
Survivors include
her husband; two daughters, Judith Renea Life of Rogers, Arkansas and Barbara
Ann Rairden of Abilene; three brothers, Claude E. Kerr of Paramount,
California, Donald E. Kerr of Concordia, and Melvin D. Kerr of Park City; two
sisters, Nita Ilene Schaich and Lois Jean Hocker, both of Abilene; eight
grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Her parents, a
son, Gary Lee Alford on September 29, 1992, and a grandson, Elmer Ray Rairden,
Jr., in 1977, preceded her in death.
