Jerry Woodard Black, Sr., 78, of Houston passed away
January 11, 1998.
Jerry was born January 14, 1919 in Scobey, MS.
He moved to Houston in 1941 where he worked for Hughes Tool Company for 43
years. Jerry served in the Navy during W.W.II as a First Class Machinist.
He is preceded in death by a son, Leslie;
mother, Nellie Dogan Black Hodges; step-father, Elmer Hodges; father, Roy W.
Black, and brother, Roy W. Black.
Jerry is survived by hks wife of 53 years, Katherine
Yantz Black; daughter Susanne Behrens, of Houston; daughter and son-in-law Sharon
and Charles Tucker, Pearland; daughter and son-in-law Shelley and Henry Chudej,
St. Lawrence; and son and daughter-in-law Jerry Jr. and Sheila Black, Pearland.
Jerry’s twelve grandchildren will miss him greatly. Kimberly Behrens Lewis,
Troy Behrens, Cory and Laura Tucker, Kelley, Lindsey, Blake, Brittney, and
Brett Chudej; and Keri, Jerry III, and Branden Black.
Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Tuesday, January
13, at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, where a rosary will be recited at 7
p.m. Tuesday. The mass of Christian burial will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, January
13, 1998, at St. Helen’s Catholic Church, 2209 Old Alvin Road, Pearland. The
interment will follow in the Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Center
for the Retarded, 2550 W. Dallas, 77019.
