            From Gil Alford, 1993:

Orville and Pauline were AAFA members #0042 and we were pleased to hear from Pauline that she wants to continue with an active membership in the association. We have been corresponding with them since Pat wrote in June 1987: “A researcher from NC told us about your quarterly paper (the old ‘About Alfords’) but did not tell us the cost. We are interested in obtaining membership.” We regret that we were never able to help Orville learn more about his second great grandfather John Alford. John was another of those folks born in North Carolina about the turn of the century who moved on to another state. He was born about 1804 or 1807 and married a person named Diarissa who was born in North Carolina about the same time. We know that in addition to Orville’s great grandfather, John Russell Alford, who was born May 1839 in Knox County, TN that their children included probably a William 1827, Daniel L. 1830, Elizabeth 1832, Martha L. 1834, Malinda Jane 1836, Jonas (Joseph) 1840, Sophia 1844 and Sarah 1847. (all dates are circa).

Orville was disabled by a blood disease for some time before his death and Pat mentioned once that his genealogy gave him something interesting with which to fill his time. He spent a lot of time under oxygen at home and in hospitals. We did enjoy working with Orville (through Pat’s letters) and hope we gave him some comfort with our participation in his hunt. We look forward to working with Pat.
