Only enter data in fields that should be changed. Leave other fields blank. Use standard capitalization and punctuation. |
|
Enter revisions of the dates and birth and death. Only enter data that is to be added or revised. If the year is unknown, enter ????. If you know that the birth or death year was before or after a certain time, you may so indicate with a < or with a >. For example, before 1850 would be entered as 1850<, or after 1900 would be entered as 1900>. For an approximate year use the Circa abbreviation CA. For example, a birth year of about 1845 should be entered 1845CA. |

If the deceased has an obituary in the State Obituary Compilation on the AAFA website, please check here: If you need to refer to the AAFA obituaries, click here. Don't worry, the obituaries will open in a new window, so your submittal will still be here with the data you have already entered. |
Enter changes in the Social Security Death Index (SSDI) data here. The SSDI is available on the internet at several free sites, as well as on Ancesty.com. Enter the Social Security Account Number (SSAN), the USPS two letter abbreviation for the Issue State, the name of the county of the last residence, and the USPS abbrevition for the State of last residence. Only enter information in fields that are being revised. |
|
Enter the family branch of the deceased by selecting the branch from the appropriate pulldown at the right. Select a family branch only if you are changing the branch from what is on the website. The family branch code is a tool that AAFA uses to identify ancestors. The family branch code consists of the first three letters of the ancestor's first name, the last three digits of his birth year, and the USPS abbreviation for his birth state. For example JOH807LA identifies John Seaborn Alford, born in 1807 in Louisiana. The family branch code is also the way we identify the genealogies on this website. The branch codes are divided into three groups, first names beginning with the letters A - I, those beginning with J, and those beginning with K - Z. Within each pulldown, the branches are ordered alphabetically by first name, then by year of birth.
If you want to refer to the AAFA Genealogies, you may click here. Don't worry, the genealogy page will open in a new window, so your submittal will still be here with the data you have already entered. |

In the text boxes below you may submit any notes that you think appropriate. Some examples of notes that should be entered here have been presented in previous screens, such as additional spouses in the Public Notes. Other examples of Public Notes might include Military Service, if known; discrepancies you have noted in birth or death dates, marriage data if you happen to find it, etc. To revise the existing Public Notes, you may copy and paste from the Cemetery record, then edit as you desire. To add new information, simply enter it in the text box, and it will be appended to the existing information.
The AAFA Private Notes are your notes for the AAFA Data Manager and/or the State Project Officer. The notes entered in the AAFA Private Notes may also be shared with other officers of AAFA, such as the Research Chair, or the Family Branch Manager. |
