AAFA WILLS
WILL OF THOMAS J. ALFORD


State of Georgia

Pike County

In the name of God Amen

I Thomas J. Alford of said State and County, being of advanced age and knowing that I must shortly depart this life deem it right and proper both as respects my family and myself that I should make a desposition of the property with which a kind Providence has helped me do therefor make this my last will and testament hereby revoking all others heretofore made by me.

Item 1st I desire and direct that my body be burried in a decent and Christian like manner suitable to my circumstances in life. My soul I trust shall return to rest with God who gave it.

Item 2nd I desire and direct that all my just debts be paid without delay by my executors hereafter appointed as in and unwilling my Creditors should be delayed in their rights especially as there is no necessity for delay.

Item 3rd I give and bequeath and desire to my beloved wife Emily R. all my land lying and being in the Counties of Pike and Upson containing eight hundred acres more or less. The plantation which I now live with all the horses, mules, cows, hogs, sheep and all other stock, plantation tools wagons and all other property belonging to said farmer with household and kitchen furniture to have and to hold during her natural life or widowhood provided she survives me and at her death or marriage all of the above name land lying and being in the Counties of Pike and Upson to go to my two sons James B. and Johnnie C. Alford to their own proper use benefit and behalf forever.

Item 4th I desire and direct that after the death of my wife that my Executors hereafter appointed shall take possession of all the effects belonging to said Estate and having sufficient time granted them give to all my children except Charity wife of Joseph E. Hawkins five hundred dollars and a horse worth one hundred to each one except Anna Justice and Amanda Barker which have had a horse each. The other children viz Nancy and wife of S. S. Steadman, Dicy Alford, Queen Alford, and Josephine Alford each to have a horse of equal value to their own proper use benefit and behalf.

Item 5th I desire and direct that all my children remain at or on my homestead as long as they remain single.

Item 6th I hereby constitute and appoint my beloved son James B. Alford Executors of this my last will and Testament

Signed sealed declared and published by Thomas J. Alford as his last will and testament in presence of us the subscribers, who subscribed our names hereto in the presence of said Testator at his special instance and request and of each other this 20th day of August 1873.
