In the name of God amen, and in the year of our Lord one Thousand Eight Hundred & Twinty,
I Lodwick Alford of the County of Wake & State of North Carolina, being Stricken in years,
but Sound mind & memory thanks be to God, for the Same & Calling to mind that it is appointed
for all men once to die, I do make & ordain this my last Will and Testament, first of all my
just debts to be paid then I dispose of my Worldly wealth in the manner as follows (to Wit.)
st l. I lend to my Wife Suzan Alford all the lands where on I now live and all my lands
Adjoining it during her natural life. I also give to her to dispose off as she sees Cause
the track of land that I Bought of Job Alford also I give to her four Negroes to dispose
of in the same way two negroes each by the name of Jack one by the name of Emsly & a negro
Woaman by the name of Agg, & for my wife Suzan Alford & my Executor here after mentioned
to sell on a credit of twelve months, any part of my house hole property or Stock of any
description that I lend her, for I lend her during her natural life all that I am in
posession of, that I do not here after mention or any other thing that She does not need
& thinks it would be an advantage to sell, & the money arising from the Sales of said
property to go as fair as she needs to her support & the Ballance if any to be put out
on Interest.
2. I give to my Grand son William High at the death of my Wife Suzan Alford all the lands
that I lend her Except the land I hereafter give away. Also I give him four negroes &
there increase naimed as follows Jacob Milly Ginney & Joseph one feather bed & furniture
one black walnut table one pine plank table one Boufat & disk six Winsor Chares Six Common
frame Chares one horse bridle & saddle Judged to worth one Hundred dollars Three Cows &
Calves Three Sows & pigs Six head of Sheep & ten head of Gees & lands bounded as follows.
Beginning on the Tarborough Rode at the fish pond then running down the branch to the
Bever dam then up the Bever dam branch to Ezekiah Masseys line then a North Cors along
said Masseys line to a corner Hickerry then west a long said Masseys line to Benjamin
Bottoms line then still a west Cors to said Bottoms Corner then still a west Cors to
William Broadwells line then a South Cours a long said Broadwells line to Job Alfords
line then a South Cours to a corner in Bud Lees line then a North cors a long said Lees
line to William Rays line then an east Cours a long an old line to Reddick Masseys line
then a long said Masseys line to the Tarborough Rode then down the said Rode a west Cors
to the first Station Containing five hundred acres more or less to him to dispose of as
he thinks proper.
3. I give to Grandson Robert High all the money that I have pade for him also a Bond that
I have against him & A. Watkins of Tenisee for him to dispose of as he thinks proper.
4. I also leave in the hands of my Executor here after mentioned for the benefit of my
Daughter Laney High & her heirs the lands that I bought of William Broadwells & the lands
where on the Tendergrasses now live, as fair as whereto given to Grandson William High
bounded by the Trivetts lines & others three hundred acres more or less also I leave in
the hands of my Executor for the benefit of my daughter Laney High & her heirs ninteen
negroes named as follows Peter Simon Coaf Joseph Willis Washington Hampton Robert & Arter,
Hannah Mary Rebeccah Peggy Ginney Vilet Queen Rodah & Easter & little Mary also all the
House hole & kitchen furniture to gether with all of my Stock of Horses Cattle Hogs &
Sheep that belongs to the plantation where on ____? now live also all of the Corn & fodder
& Cotton & all of the rest of the Property belonging to me on Said Plantation to be under
the care of my Executor during her naturall life, then for Said property both real &
perrisable to be Equally divided between her Bodily heirs. And for my Executor here after
mentioned to anually attend to Said property and keep it to gether for my daughter Laney
High during her natural life.
5. And at the death of my wife the residue of my Estate both real and Perrisonable is to
be sold on a credit of twelve month Except my negro man by the name of Peter my Will &
desire is that he shall be at libberty during of his life under the care of my son Cade
Alford & at his death I desire him to be buried in a Christian like manner & the Text for
his funeral to be thus -- He that knoweth the will of his Lord and doeth it not shal be
beaten with many Stripes. I also desire that if he should becom infurm so that he cannot
support him self he is to be well supported out of my Estate during his life & the money
arising from the above mentioned Sale to be Equally divided between my Grand children
(to wit) Hutson Alford, Cade Alford, Peyton Alford, Clary Hinton, Mary High & Lany High,
I also leave the track of land where on my daughter Laney High now lives to be Sold by
my Executor and the money arising to discharge a Judgment that was obtained against Samuel
High as principle & Cade Alford & Zadock Ray as Securites in favour of the State Bank &
the money arising from the sale after dischargen said Judgment & Cost for my Executor to
put the residue if any to the Support of my daughter Lany High & family & for my Executor
to have a reasonable Satisfaction for his trouble.
And I desire this to be red as my last will and Testament anulling & makeing Void all
others to which I do constitute & appoint my son Cade Alford my Sole Executor to act for
me after my death as though I was living & acting for my Self in witness where of I have
here unto set my hand & affix my Seal this the 24th day of May 1820.

The above Will was exhibited in open Court for probate and duly proven by the oaths of
Matthew Strickland, Jr. and George Crudup Subscribing Witnesses thereto and was then
ordered to be Recorded.
