In the name of God. Amen. I Lockhard Alford of the County of Franklin and State of North
Carolina being sick and weakly of body, but sound of mind and disposing memory blessed be
to God for the time and knowing that it is appointed for all men to die, I commend my soul
into the hands of God, and my body to be buried in a decent Christian like manner, at the
discretion of Executor, do make and establish the following as my last will and testament
in the following manner.
First. I lend unto my beloved wife Tabitha Alford the tract of land whereon I now live,
during her life.
Second. I give and bequeath unto my said wife one feather bed, and furniture, two cows and
calves, one horse, two Hacks of fodder. (the corn and fodder to be of the present crop.)
Item 3. I give and bequeath my said tract of land to my beloved son Willis P. Alford,
(after the death of my said wife,) to him and to his heirs and assigns forever. Also my
silver watch.
Third. I give and bequeath unto my sons John I. Alford and Medicus A. Alford all my
carpenter's tools, each to share alike to them and to their heirs and assigns forever.
Fourth. I give and bequeath unto my beloved daughter Haspy E. Alford, one curtain bedstead,
bed, and all its furniture, one cow and calf, to her and to her heirs and assigns forever.
Fifth. I give and bequeath unto my beloved son Arthur F. Alford the sum of five dollars,
to be raised out of my estate, to him and to his heirs and assigns forever.
Sixth. I give and bequeath unto my son William C. Alford the sum of five dollars to be raised
out of my estate to him and to his heirs and assigns forever.
Seventh. I give and bequeath unto my son Bennet P. Alford the sum of five dollars to be raised
out of my estate, to him and to his heirs and assigns forever.
Lastly. My request is that my son Willis P. Alford give my beloved son Jeremiah Alford the
sum of fifty dollars after the death of my said Wife Tabitha, to him and to his heirs and
assigns forever.
And I hereby make and ordain my worthy friend Baldwin Parry executor of this my last will
and testament.
In witness whereof I the said Lockhard H. Alford have to this my last will and testament
set my hand and seal, this the 2nd day of August 1844.
