Jim Edwards was probably best known for his contribution of Alford information and data. His most significant contribution however was his recommendation regarding the association seal and the initial acquisition of the seal and ribbon. Early in his Alford research he acquired from the North Carolina State Library and North Carolina Archives photostatic copies of about 25 valuable old Alford documents. Central to his Alford record keeping where 3x5 cards, all of which he had photocopied and provided to AAFA. Not long after the formation of the association he donated framed oil painting of the Alford coat of arms valued at $50. (cost and description where his). This was used as a prize at the 2009 AAFA meeting in Dallas, TX and was won by Donald R. Alford, AAFA #0059.
