Robert W. Alford, 80, died Wednesday, June 24,
2009. Born in Edgecombe County, he was a resident of Coastal Plantation,
Hampstead, NC. He was retired from the USAF and the Social Security
Administration. In 1984, he had the Order of the Long Leaf Pine conferred on
him by then Gov. Hunt for his work with the state of North Carolina.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Ramona
Coker.
Surviving are his wife, Melvina R. Alford; two
sons, Robert, Jr. and Richard; two grandchildren, Deborah Dixon and husband,
William, and Phillip Glenn.
An interment service will be held at 1:30 p.m.
on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at Montlawn Memorial Park, 3201 S. Wilmington
Street, Raleigh, NC. A memorial will be included in the 10:00 a.m. worship
service at Topsail Presbyterian Church, Hampstead, NC on Sunday, June 28, 2009
with Reverend Owen Carriker officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be
sent to Topsail Presbyterian Church,16249 U.S. Highway 17 N. Hampstead, NC
28443.
