TECUMSEH, Mich.—Brenda L. Herington, 62, of Tecumseh passed away Thursday, April 28, 2011, with her loving family by her side. Brenda was born Feb. 4, 1949, in Ypsilanti, the daughter of John W. and Lois E. (Hollaway) Alford. On Oct. 12, 1968, she married Robert J. Herington at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Belleville and he survives.

            Brenda attended Belleville High School, graduating in 1967. She also received her associate degree from Georgetown College in Kentucky. Brenda was a lifelong collector of antiques and worked for many years as an antique dealer for the Tecumseh Antique Mall.

            She enjoyed gardening, playing cards and researching her genealogy and history. Brenda was a member of the Tecumseh Garden Club and Tecumseh Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed traveling to Kentucky and Florida as well as taking cruises. She loved spending time with her family and was an especially devoted grandmother who enjoyed attending sporting and school events as well as shopping for her grandchildren.

            Brenda is survived by her husband, Robert; her parents John and Lois Alford of Corbin, Ky.; her sons, Jeffrey R. (Jennifer) Herington of Clinton and Jason W. (Katherine) Herington of Tecumseh; her brother, John W. (Dawn) Alford II of Ypsilanti; and her three loving grandchildren, Dominic, Ethan and Brooklyn.

            Visitation for Brenda will be at the Tecumseh Chapel of Handler Funeral Home on Sunday, May 1, from 2 to 8 p.m. and Monday, May 2, from 2 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be Tuesday, May 3, at the Tecumseh Missionary Baptist Church at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Brian Jones officiating. She will lie in state from noon until the time of service. Burial will follow at Brookside Cemetery in Tecumseh.
