DAILY RECORD

Ellensburg, Kittitas Co., WA—25 August 2011

Our loving mother, Mina Virginia Culbertson died on August 20, 2011. Mina was 93 years old. She was born in Russell Township, near Edgeley, North Dakota on October 21, 1917 to Harris and Mabel Alford, the oldest of nine children. Her youth was spent in school, caring for siblings, and helping her mother at housework. The Alford family moved first to Redmond, Washington in 1934, then to Ellensburg in 1935 where they lived at the corner of Look and Alford Roads.

Mina married Andrew Brynestad in Jacksonville, Florida on March 4, 1944. After Andrew was killed in an airplane accident, she moved back to Ellensburg.

Mina married Dale Culbertson in Port Gamble, Washington on August 30, 1952. She then lived on Airport Road in Ellensburg for the next 58 years, six months, and 25 days. She has been at Chandler House in Yakima since March 24, 2011.

Mina worked at the Kittitas Public Utility District from the late 1930’s to the mid 1940’s and again from the late 1940’s to the early 1950’s. She also worked in the Kittitas County Auditor office during the late 1960’s to mid 1970’s.

Mina was preceded in death by her parents, brothers—Clinton, Clifton, Dewayne, Clayton, and sisters—Baby Francis and Marian and husband Dale.

Mina is survived by brother Douglas (Beverly) of Pasco and sister Melba (Lester) of Seattle, son Alan Brynestad and grandsons Justin, Erik, and Kody Brynestad, sons Wayne, Neil, Jerry Culbertson and grandson Brody and granddaughter Cami Culbertson.

For years Mina was like a one woman factory turning out countless quilts, baby blankets, afghans, and other knit goods which were donated to various organizations. She cultivated a large garden of vegetables and flowers and canned tons of food stuffs. She baked loaves and loaves of bread week in and week out.

Thank you Chandler House for caring for Mina these past few months. Donations in Mina’s name can be made to Chandler House, 701 North 39th Avenue, Yakima WA 98902.
