            Dora Mae Rager Alford, 89, of Central City, went to heaven to join the Lord Jesus Christ and her husband of almost 50 years, whom she loved dearly, the late Loren Alford, Friday, Nov. 14, 2008 at Red Bank Nursing Home in Henderson.

            Born in Muhlenberg County Sept. 26, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Andrew Rager and Nancy Jane Stobaugh. She was a devout member of New Harmony Baptist Church in Bremen since 1936. She was a 26-year member of Easter Star Bremen Chapter 95. After retiring from Advance Transformers in Chicago, Ill., as staff supervisor, she as a volunteer at McLean County VIP and was active in Livermore Senior Citizens. She enjoyed spending time with family, worshipping God, country music and dancing.

            She was preceded in death by two brothers, Sherman Rager and Henry Rager.

            Survivors include her loving daughter, Betty (Edsel) Peveler of White Plains [AAFA #0947]; two sons, Jimmie Ray (Maree) Alford of Chicago, Ill. [AAFA #0500], and Larry Glenden (Marianne) Alford of Jackson, Tenn.; eight grandchildren, Wayne Whitt, Nancy (B-Bob) Fields, Vicki Lon, Michelle (Chris) Goad, Ann (Sean) Bullock, Alan Bullock, Paul Alford and Catherine (John) Anderson; 15 great-grandchildren, Jonathan France, Isabelle Whitt, Amanda Rose, Sandra Hicks, Bobby Fields, Robert Fields Sr., Jasmine Sorrels, Danielle Lott, Anthony Ford Jr., Paris Alford, Chastity Alford, Isaac Anderson, Rayann Anderson, Kristen Goad and Tyler Goad; six great-great-grandchildren, Brianna Rose, Byron Rose, Nathan Hicks, Natalie Hicks, Landon Fields and Robert Fields Jr.

            Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Nov. 16 at New Harmony Baptist Church.... Burial followed in New Harmony Cemetery in Bremen. Tucker Funeral Home in Central City was in charge of arrangements.

            She was loved and cherished by many and will be missed by all. The family never wants her to forget, “Nanny, we love you!”

 

AAFA NOTES: SSDI records do not list her death. Dora’s son Jimmie reported that she died Thursday, 13 Nov 2008.

            Jimmie also corrected some of the incorrect spellings for the descendants.

            Dora’s husband, Loren G. Alford, died 13 Feb 1988. Dora was the active AAFA member.
