Funeral services for Audrey Irene House Boles, 79 will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in College Heights Baptist Church.... Burial will be in Plainview Memorial Park by Wood-Dunning Funeral Home.
Mrs. Boles died at 10:08 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000 in Covenant Hospital Plainview.
She was born Nov. 11, 1921, in Powderly. She moved to Plainview in 1946 from Lovington, N.M., and graduated first in her class and summa cum laude from Wayland Baptist College in 1950. She immediately began work as registrar and for the next 37 years served under five presidents and numerous academic deans.
Until 1963, she served alone without a full-time assistant. After her retirement in 1987, she still served on a part-time basis for several years.
She recently received the Distinguished Lifetime Service Award from the Association of Former Students for “unselfish and loyal service to Wayland Baptist University for more than 50 years.” In 1984, she received the Distinguished Service Award from the Association of Former Students. In 1986, the university honored her with the Doctor of Letters degree and upon her retirement she was granted the title Registrar Emeritus.
She was a member of College Heights Baptist Church and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She also had served as proofreader of “Footprints,” the Wayland alumni magazine.
On Dec. 28, 1936 [age 15?—this date appears in both obituaries], she married Walter Roy Boles in Mount Pleasant.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Grace Carter of Fredericksburg; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Claude and Jan Boles of Wichita Falls and W.R. Boles of Borger; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Four grandchildren, one brother, one sister and a son-in-law, are deceased....

Christian love and sympathy to the family and friends of Roy Boles, BA’51, who died on February 25, 2003. He was 87. Services were held in Plainview with his grandson by marriage, Scott Greene, BM’87, presiding. He moved to Plainview in 1946, graduated from Wayland and worked in the maintenance department from 1954 until his retirement in 1981. Roy was an ordained Baptist minister. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dr. Audrey Boles, BA’50, registrar emeritus of the university. Among survivors are two sons and a daughter, Patricia Boles Carter, EX’85, and several grandchildren including Lawna Boles Greene, BA’91, and Valerie Carter, EX’94....
