            Memorial Services for Mr. Fletcher Hayden "Bud" Ellzey, will be held on Wednesday May 6, 2009 at 10AM, at Pine Crest Funeral Home, Dauphin Island Parkway, Mobile, AL. Ellzey quietly passed May 1, 2009, in the presence of family at Providence Hospital Compassionate Care Unit.

            He was born August 26, 1926, second son to Murray D. and Athalene Marie Hayden Ellzey. Born in Chicago, IL, he was a native of Elmhurst, IL. He married Barbara Jean Linebaugh of Mobile (Murphy ’47) in 1950, while stationed at Brookley AFB. Retiring to Mobile in 1986 after 41 years combined active and civil service duty, he served with the 25th Division in World War II during the Philippine Liberation and in the United States Air Force after the war, retiring active duty SMSgt., Jan. 1969. His Air Force stint included service during the Korean and Vietnam conflicts as a flight crew member on military cargo aircraft. He retired Federal Civil Service in Sept. 1985, working in the AWACS and B-52 Depot Maintenance Programs at Tinker AFB, OK. In his later years, his hobby was tracing the Linebaugh (Farver) and Ellzey (Hayden) family ancestry to the current branches of the family trees.

            Ellzey is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara (2006); his parents; two brothers, J. Murray Ellzey, and Richard D. Ellzey; daughter, Cherianne Dee Callaway and grandson, Derek Alan Neal.

            He is survived by three sons David Alan Neal Ellzey, Bastrop, TX, Jon Edwin Ellzey (Gareth), Austin, TX, and Timothy J. Ellzey (Robert C.) of Mobile, AL; three grandchildren, Adam Barry Callaway, Sandi Lee Callaway and Keith Edward Neal (Rebecca) all of Oklahoma City, OK; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

            Ashes will be interred in Pine Crest Cemetery, Chapel of the Pines Mausoleum, niche C-10, Dauphin Island Parkway, Mobile, Mobile, County, AL. Arrangements by Pine Crest Funerals and Cremations, 1939 Dauphin Island Parkway, Mobile, AL 251-478-5227.

 

AAFA NOTES: Bud’s Alford ancestor was his great-great-grandmother Martha Alford, wife of William Jackson Stovall Sr. and daughter of Jacob Alford and Frances Seaborn.
