            Barbara Jane Alford was born February 3, 1929 in Los Angeles, passed away July 22, 2003 at Reche Canyon Rehabilitation Center after a long illness. Beloved wife of Frank Alford for 56 years. Reunited now with her son, Michael Lynn Alford, who gave his life for his country in Vietnam on May 1, 1968. Survived by sons, Daniel Lee Alford, Philip Dennis Alford, and Robert “Rob” Alford, 5 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; sister, Betty Marie Bethel; and many extended family members and friends.

            Barbara attended Redlands High School and was part of the graduating class of 1947. Besides being a devoted wife, mother & nurse, she was involved in numerous volunteer work including Redlands Community Hospital Auxiliary, Red Cross, Operation “Send Off” at Norton A.F. Base during the Vietnam War, and Meals on Wheels. She held various offices in the Gold Star Mothers Organization and worked as a volunteer at the Jerry L. Pettis Hospital. She was instrumental in the establishment of the memorial commemorating service people from Redlands who gave their lives for their country in many wars. She was official Gold Star Mother for the Riverside Vietnam Veteran Chapter 47. She has been a member of the First Methodist Church of Redlands, First Congregational Church of Redlands and more recently, Emmanuel Methodist Church of San Bernardino.

            All who loved her and knew her miss Barbara; she was a giving and loving person who always looked for the best in others.

            A memorial service will be held Saturday at Emmanuel Methodist Church in San Bernardino at 10:30. Graveside Services will be at 12:00, Monday, July 28, 2003 at Riverside National Cemetery, Staging Area #1, and a private visitation at Emmerson-Bartlett of Redlands….

            Barbara and Frank, who were married on 29 June 1947, were present at the AAFA meeting in California. They were part of what we called “the family of 14”: 14 attendees from the families of brothers Phil and Frank.
