Mr. Hubert Lee Alford (Herb) Oct. 8, 1936- Sept
16, 2015—Owner of Hubert Alford Construction, Inc., passed away peacefully at
his home in the Alford’s bend community.
He loved the Lord, his family, farm and friends.
Hubert was a strong and hardworking family man, dedicated American patriot and
fierce Auburn fan. With his fun loving personality, he never met a stranger and
he loved people. Committed to serving the Lord, Hubert was a member of Goodyear
Heights Baptist Church, where he served faithfully as a deacon and Sunday
school teacher for the Seeker’s Sunday school class. His mission field was
everywhere and with everyone that he met, never missing an opportunity to open
a door to conversation with his well-known sense of humor. Hubert was a member
of the Alabama Home Builder’s Association and Alabama Cattleman’s Association.
As a Post Korean War-Pre Vietnam era veteran,
Hubert served his country in the U.S. Army from 1955-1957 and in the Inactive
Reserve until 1968 as Tracked Vehicle Mechanic. He was stationed in Friedberg,
Germany with the 3rd Armored Division, 32nd Tank Battalion. An avid
outdoorsman, Hubert was passionate about football and especially loved his
Auburn Tigers. His favorite expression was “War Eagle.”
Hubert is survived by his beloved wife of 57
years, Nelda Jane Smith Alford (momma), his daughter, Dana Farmer (Danny) of
Hazel Green, AL, a son Chris Alford (Tonya) of Webster’s Chapel, AL, 3
grandchildren, Josh Farmer (Cameron), Becca Farmer, and Johnny Alford. He is
also survived by his brothers, H.T. Alford (Glenda), Jack Alford (Beth), a
sister Margie White (Arizona) and many nieces and nephews.
Hubert is preceded in death by his parents, the
late Hardman T. Alford, and Annie Rhoda Spinks Alford; brothers, Edsel Alford,
Neil Alford, Louis Alford, Talmadge Alford and sister Nell Marie Gabbard.
The service will be at 2:00 Friday, September
18th at Collier-Butler Chapel and be led by Dr. Tommy Ferguson, Rev. Davey
Burns and Danny Farmer. Burial will be at Crestwood Cemetery….
The pallbearers will be the Goodyear Heights
Baptist Church Deacons, Dewey Jacobs and Terry Busenlehner. Honorary
Pallbearers are the Seekers Sunday school class.
