MACON—Juanita Rivers Stevens passed gently onto that good night on May 14, 2008 after an extended illness.

            Born in McComb, Mississippi to Edward and Polly Ard Rivers on July 18 1924, she is preceded in death by her two sisters, Polly Hammond and Martha Ellen Rivers. Mrs. Stevens lived a long, rich, and creative life of service to her family and community. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology at University of Mississippi where she was a member of Phi Mu Fraternity, and a Master's Degree in Social Work from Tulane University. Dedicated throughout her life to the profession of Social Work, she served as Senior Social Worker with Children's Medical Services in Macon for 26 years. Mrs. Stevens served on the Board of Directors for the Middle Georgia Speech and Hearing Society and the Central Georgia Genealogical Society. She was a lifelong member of the National Association of Social Workers, and an active member of Riverside United Methodist Church.

            She was the beloved wife of David Eugene Stevens, who survives her along with her children, Daphne Ellen Stevens (Aaron Bowers), David Eugene Stevens Jr., and Richard Matthews Stevens (Mary); grandchildren, CarsonAnne Sabir (Youssef), David Eugene Stevens III, Catherine Elizabeth Stevens (Allen Morris), Richard Taylor Stevens; and great grandson, Zebulon West-Groover.

            She is remembered by her family for her tireless efforts as a homemaker, and her graciousness in welcoming the myriad friends of her children who were frequent guests in her home. The family would like to thank the staff at Heartland Hospice, as well as the many caregivers who have been dedicated to the wellbeing of Mrs. Stevens and her family.

            Funeral services will be held at Riverside United Methodist Church on Friday, May 16 at 3P.M. The Reverends Alan Benson and Tyler Plaxico will officiate.

            In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to Riverside United Methodist Church.

            Hart's Mortuary and Crematory has charge of arrangements.

            Juanita was an ardent genealogist. She and her husband David attended several annual meetings.
