            Alford, Jane Wallace Age 95 of Lewisburg, TN, passed away February 10, 2009 at NHC Lewisburg. She was the daughter of the late Cecil Cundiff Wallace and Angie May Gill Wallace. She was married to the late William Howard Alford, Jr. and was preceded in death by three brothers, Cecil Gill Wallace, John Laws Wallace and George Bascom Wallace.

            Mrs. Alford was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lewisburg. She was a Charter member of the Robert Lewis Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Lewisburg Study Club, and was active in many local and national genealogical and historical preservation organizations. She compiled Revolutionary War Patriots of Marshall County, Tennessee and contributed to other published works. She is listed in Who’s Who of American Women, 6th Edition, 1970–1971. Mrs. Alford was instrumental in a special DAR project to rescue and restore a small log cabin, thought to be the meeting house of the first Marshall County Court.

            Mrs. Alford is survived by three daughters, Jane Alford McBride, Huntsville, AL [AAFA #0792], Mary Alford Wellford, Jacksonville, FL and Nancy Alford Prosser, Lewisburg, TN. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Amy McBride King, Huntsville, AL, Paul M. McBride (Courtney), Lake Sherwood, CA, William H.A. McBride, Washington, DC, Sarah McBride Cordle (Matt), Lexington, KY, Angie G. Wellford, Atlanta, GA, John L. Wellford III, Atlanta, GA, Mary Gill Prosser Wallace and Catherine Prosser, Nashville, TN; and a sister-in-law, Virginia Word Alford (Mrs. Tom) of Lewisburg, TN; four great-granddaughters and four great-grandsons, and nieces and nephews also survive her.

            Funeral services for Mrs. Alford will be Saturday at 1 p.m., at First United Methodist Church of Lewisburg, with Revs. Mark Irvin and Tom Smith officiating, with burial immediately following at Lone Oak Cemetery.

            The family will be at the church one hour prior to the funeral hour. Honorary Pallbearers are her four grandsons and John L. Wellford, Jr., Matt Cordle and Drew Davidson.

            Jane’s husband, William Howard Alford, died in 1972. Jane was the genealogist in the family as well as the AAFA member.

            She and her daughter Jane McBride attended the 1995 meeting in Decatur, AL. She corresponded with Gil Alford extensively over the years, starting in March 1983, before AAFA was established.
