CULLMAN—Johnny Evelyn Alford Sterling, 80, of Addison passed
away Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, in Cullman.
She was born Aug. 16, 1933, in Winston County.
Mrs. Sterling was a member of Sardis Baptist Church No. 2 for 58 years. She
graduated from Addison High School in 1950. She loved Alabama football and
spent many years farming with her husband. She was generous, thoughtful,
helpful and kind. She loved to travel, sightsee and shop. She loved all, but especially
her grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday,
Dec. 4, 2013, at Nichols Funeral Home in Addison. Services will be held at 1
p.m. Thursday at Sardis Baptist Church No. 2. Mrs. Sterling will lie in state
from noon to 1 p.m. Bros. Mackey Watts and Glenn Woods will officiate. Burial
will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Thomas Lowery, Robert
Lowery, Lanier Godsey Jr., James Luker, Robert Godsey and Mitchell Owens Jr.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Otis Hunter
and Clay Bradford.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years,
Billy Thomas Sterling; son, Robin Alford (Wanda) Sterling; daughter, Jane
Sterling (David) Lowery; sisters, Peggy Owens, Betty (Lanier) Godsey and Owene
(Carl) Godsey; and three grandchildren, Amberley (Clay) Lowery Bradford, Thomas
Lowery and Robert Lowery.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Owen
and Mary Miller Alford; and her brother-in-law, Mitchell Owens.
