            E. Griffin Alford, Sr., 81, of Jackson, died February 27, 2002, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday from Broadmoor Baptist Church. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Park with full military honors. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. today at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Ridgeland, MS. & 1 p.m. Monday at the church.

            Mr. Alford, a native of Rosedale, was a long time resident of Jackson. He graduated from The University of Mississippi where he earned his degree in accounting. While at Ole Miss, Mr. Alford was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha social Fraternity and was a member of the ROTC. After graduation he received his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army. Mr. Alford was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Quartermaster Corps, in the European Theater, where he received the Bronze Star & the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 3 bronze stars. He served 30 years in the U.S. Army Reserve, where he was the commander of the 40th Ordinance Group headquartered in Jackson. Mr. Alford retired from service achieving the rank of Colonel.

            Mr. Alford was a retired Certified Public Accountant, practicing for over 56 years. He was the Sole Proprietor of E. Griffin Alford, CPA. Mr. Alford was very active in the community & various professional organizations. He served as President of the Mississippi Society of CPA's, the Mississippi Estate planning Council, the Reserve Officers Association, the Retired Officers Association, the Jackson Chapter of the Military Order of World Wars, the American Legion Post 110 and the Jackson Chapter of the National Association of Accountants. Mr. Alford had been a member of the Jackson Central Lion's Club since 1959 and served as the Secretary/Treasurer for 29 years. Mr. Alford traveled with the All State Lion's Band to Seoul, Korea. He was active in the YMCA, the Sons of the American Revolution, and was a member of the First Families of Mississippi. He was a long time member of Broadmoor Baptist Church, where he was active in the Sunday School program. Mr. Alford enjoyed playing tennis on Saturday morning at Parham Bridges with his family & friends.

            Survivors include: his wife: Doris Alford of Jackson, MS.; his sons: E. Griffin Alford, Jr. [AAFA #0452], of Madison, MS., David Baldwin Alford of Brandon, MS., Andrew Stephen Alford of Florence, MS., daughter, Claudia Alford Stribling of Jackson, MS.; 5 granddaughters....

 

AAFA NOTES: SSDI records show that Edgar G. Alford (SS# issued in MS) was born 22 May 1920.

            Griff attended the 1991 meeting in Jackson, MS, with his son Edgar Griffin Alford, Jr. Following that he provided us with some family group records on some of his immediate families.
