teacher and a resident of Hammond, she died Thursday, June 7, 2001, at Hammond
Nursing Home. She was 97 and a native of Montegut.

Home, Hammond, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and after 9 a.m. Saturday.
Religious services in the funeral home chapel at 10 a.m. Saturday, conducted by
the Rev. Lonnie Wascom. Interment in Lanier Cemetery, Loranger.
Survived by a son, daughter-in-law and
granddaughter, William Henkel Bankston Jr., Gretchen Gerstner Bankston and
Merrill Jane Bankston , all of Baton Rouge; two sisters, Charity Johnson, Lake
Charles, and Lillian McFarland, Houston; and a sister-in-law, Yvonne Alford,
Preceded in death by husband, William Henkel
Bankston ; a grandson, William Henkel Bankston III; three sisters, Haidee
Reeves, Lucille Cole and Mary Cory; three brothers, Clyde Alford, Bailey Alford
Jr. and Eulon Alford; and parents, Bailey and Jennie Brumfield Alford.
She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church,
