Thomas Richard “Dick” Alford, 84, of West
Columbia, Texas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 31, 2017 at Oak
Village Healthcare facility.
Dick was born in Alpine, Texas to Erma Jolly and
Herbert Lafayette Alford on February 1, 1933. He spent his younger years in San
Angelo, Texas and graduated college in 1955 with a degree in Mechanical
Engineering from Texas Tech University. He moved to Houston and accepted a
position with Houston Lighting & Power. Soon after he met the love of his
life, Nelda, and the two were married on September 29, 1956. After serving 2 years
as a 1st Lieutenant in the US Army Corps of Engineers, Dick returned to work at
HL&P where he retired after 35 years of service. In retirement, he and
Nelda enjoyed traveling and spending time with their family and grandchildren.
Dick is preceded in death by his parents, Erma
Jolly Atkins Alford and Herbert Lafayette Alford and his brother John Herbert
Alford.
He is survived by his wife Nelda Irene Alford,
his sons, Stephen Richard (Carol) Alford, Robert Wayne (Sandy) Alford, daughter
Linda Kay Alford, sister, Jane Ann Tudor (Jasper) Welch, brother, Robert Atkins
(Renee) Alford and grandchildren, Fiona (Jay), William, Joram, Travis, Bryan
and Madelyn.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday,
January 13, 2018 beginning at 10:30 am at St. John Apostle Catholic Church, 807
Loggins Dr., West Columbia, TX. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be
given in the name of Thomas Richard Alford to the Alzheimer’s Association….
