            William Dallas Alford, 85, resident of 500 Pickwick Trail, died Monday morning [May 11] in the VA Medical Center following declining health.

            He had been a lifelong resident of Durham and was the son of the late Thomas H. and Larceny Peed Alford. He was the husband of the late Mozelle Clayton Alford. Mr. Alford was a retired employee of Nello Teer after many years of employment. He was a member of Mt. Hermon Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II.

            Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Jerri N. Matthews of Pine Knoll Shores; three sisters, Mrs. Lucy Jackson of Tarboro, Mrs. Ruth Utley of Durham and Mrs. Mary Witt of Kentucky; one granddaughter, Karen Matthews of San Marcos, Texas; and one grandson, Greg Matthews of San Diego, Calif.

            Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Mt. Hermon Baptist Church.... Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 Wednesday evening at Clements Funeral Home….

William and Mozelle were both divorced.
