            Merle Bunn Alford, 77, of 623 Clyde Pearce Road, Zebulon, went to be with the Lord, peacefully Saturday morning 1 January 2005 at her home.

            She was born in Franklin County 30 April 1927 daughter of the late Troy and Mamie Pearce Bunn. She was the widow of James Barbee “Hoss” Alford. She was a loving mother.

            The funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday at Pilot Baptist Church....

            She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law James B. Alford, Jr., and wife Phyllis, William Gus Alford and wife Kim, all of Pilot; grandchildren Neil Alford and wife Paula, Barbie Carter and husband Dan, Ben Alford and wife Bridgette, Nikki Garrett and husband Jeremy, Leigh Ann Alford and Shannon Alford; great-grandchildren Elizabeth, Caroline, and Daniel Carter, Austin and Seth Alford, Zollie Alford, and Nicholas Garrett; special nephew Ron Bullock and wife Monika of Pilot; special nieces Diane Holding of Winston-Salem, Fran Donavant of Cary; special friend Roxanne Bullock and special caregiver Susie Carlyle.

            She was preceded in death by her sisters and brother, Carmen Powers, Jewell Hussey, Archie Bunn, and Frances Wiggins.

            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Upchurch-Alford-Bunn Cemetery Fund for upkeep, and mailed to Jim and Phyllis Alford, 8453 NC 39 Highway South, Zebulon, NC 27597.

            The family will receive friends 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Sunday at Strickland Funeral Home, 211 W. Third Street, Wendell and other times at the home.
