            Mrs. Vonceil Alford Strong, 82, passed away Monday, July 9, 2007, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus, MS.

            Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at the Gunter and Peel Chapel.... Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery....

            Mrs. Strong was born January 30, 1925, in McComb, MS to the late Florence Johnston and Dewey Alford. She was a graduate of McComb High School, Copiah-Lincoln Junior College, and Purdue University. She briefly worked as a draftsman for South Central Bell in Meridian, MS. There she met and married the late Leroy Strong, her husband of 38 years.

            Mr. and Mrs. Strong moved to Columbus in 1950 where Mrs. Strong became a draftsman for Four County Electric Power Association. She later worked for West & Sons Construction Company as their residential home designer and for West Realty as a real estate agent. During the 1970’s Mr. and Mrs. Strong moved to Leroy’s hometown of Bay St. Louis, MS, where Mrs. Strong started her own real estate agency.

            Mr. and Mrs. Strong eventually moved back to Columbus and Mrs. Strong became a self-employed residential home designer. She worked for many contractors in town and designed homes in all of the major areas of Columbus. Most recently, she worked with Bill McBryde in designing homes in Timber Cove, where she lived.

            Mrs. Strong was a charter member of the Soroptimist Club. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Lewis Fellowship Sunday School Class.

            In addition to her parents, Mrs. Strong was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Strong, and her step-son, Kermit Strong of Lakeshore, MS.

            She is survived by her daughter, Cindy (Fred) Hayslett of Columbus; daughter-in-law June Strong of Swainsboro, GA; brother, Billy Joe Alford [AAFA #0325] of Hammond, LA; granddaughter, Jennifer Harris of Birmingham, AL; grandson, Jody (Ashley) Harris and great-grandson Macrae Harris of Mt. Pleasant, SC; and special friend Bill Stokes of Ruston, LA. Pallbearers will be Ron Locke, Doug Holland, Larry Harris, Steve Green, Jeff Alford, Joe Alford, Bill McBryde, and W.V. West....
