Savannah, Chatham Co., GA—Tuesday, 8 September 2009

 

DECATUR—Mary Nell McGirt Peters, 83, of Decatur, passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2009 at her home after an extended illness.

            Ms. Peters was born in Waycross, Georgia to John Britton McGirt and Claire Malcom McGirt.

            She was born on October 9, 1925 and attended Waycross High School and the University of Georgia.

            She was married to James Bostick Peters, Sr.

            Ms. Peters was manager of Maier and Berkele Jewelry in Decatur for 35 years. She was a member of the Decatur United Heights Methodist Church and DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution).

            Ms. Peters was preceded in death by her husband, James Bostick Peters, Sr.; one son, Chip Peters; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John B. McGirt; and one sister, Betty McGirt Lee.

            Ms. Peters is survived by son, James Bostick Peters, Jr. and his wife Rhonda Hatcher Peters; one brother, John (Jack) Britton McGirt and wife June; six grandchildren, Claire, Michelle, Vicki, Chip, and Jimmy, Jessica; three great-grandchildren, Lindsey, Layne, and Ethan; and many nieces and nephews.

            Visitation will be Tuesday, September 8 at A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home, Decatur, GA from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 9 in the chapel at A.S. Turner and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. James Sanders and Rev. Don Anne Webber officiating.

            Burial will follow at Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Tucker.

            Donations in her memory can be made to her favorite charity, United Methodist Children's Home, 500 South Columbia Dr., Decatur, GA 30030.
