            Lillian Lois Reed Alford, 89, and a native of Grapevine [Tarrant Co.], Texas, passed away peacefully at her home in Covington on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2007. Mrs. Alford, a former longtime resident of Baker and Baton Rouge, was best known for her role as “The Boss” of Alford Safe and Lock Co.

            Preceded in death by her husband, William Edgar Alford; grandson, Brodie Joe Alford; and great-grandson, Benjamin Reagan Hisaw.

            Survivors include her sisters, Mary Carr and Georgia Pool, both of Arlington, Texas; children, Reed Alford, Dianna Alford and Gary Alford; grandchildren, John Alford, Brian Hisaw, Courtenay Hisaw and Jacqueline Alford; great-granddaughter, Taylor Sweeney; and her canine friend cocker spaniel, Lecie Lady Alford.

            She will forever be remembered for her tireless work ethic, her love of reading and bits of wisdom such as “this too shall pass,” “we are where we are” and “you’ll live ’til you die.”

            Visitation at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., on Tuesday, Oct. 9, from 11 a.m. until graveside service at Greenoaks Memorial Park at 2 p.m.

 

AAFA NOTES: SSDI records show that Lillian R. Alford (SS# issued in TX) was b. 6 July 1918, last residence Covington, Saint Tammany Parish, LA.

            Lois was the active AAFA member—her husband, William Edgar Alford, died 15 October 1979 [SS# issued in TX, last residence Baker, East Baton Rouge, LA], before AAFA was founded.

            Lois is listed on the 1930 census with her parents and sisters in Precinct 3 (E.D. 116), Tarrant Co., TX, dwelling #233: Fred S. Reed, farm laborer age 46, age 33 at first marriage; his wife Myrtle 33, age 20 at first marriage; and daughters Lois 11, Mary E. 7, and Georgia 5. All were b. in TX.

            AAFA Bible Records show that William Edgar Alford and Lillian Lois Reed were married 9 May 1942, probably in Tarrant Co., TX, since their son Edgar Reed Alford was born there on 5 March 1944 [USGenWeb, Tarrant Co., TX].

            On his WWI Draft Registration Card [Ancestry.com], William’s father Joseph Price Alford is age 38, an ice delivery many living in Dallas, TX. He says he was b. 25 May 1880 [confirming the Bible record], names his father D.W. Alford at the same
