            Funeral services for Paul C. Murphy, 77, will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, 1995, at Earthman Baytown Chapel with minister Cecil Haffelfinger officiating.

            Murphy died on Saturday, April 15, in a Port Lavaca [Calhoun Co., TX] hospital.

            Born in Oakdale, LA, on Nov. 17, 1917, he had graduated from Oakdale High School. Later he attended and graduated from Rice University, having played football there during the 1938 defeat of the University of Colorado in the Cotton Bowl.

            Murphy worked for Exxon for 44 years and was an active member of the Baytown Masonic Lodge.

            He is survived by a daughter, Steveanna Murphy Giesecke and husband Jack of Port Lavaca; granddaughter, Gretchen Giesecke of Port Lavaca; brothers, Thomas Murphy of Canon City, Colo., and Charles Murphy of Arlington, Va., sister Nelda Randall of Coral Gables, Fla., cousins, Vesta Giddings [AAFA #233] of Baytown, Josephine Carrigan [AAFA #235] of Pleasanton, Calif., and Haidee Reeves [AAFA #210] of Hammond.

            Pallbearers will be Troy Tucker, Bill Hanna, David Wims, Larry Sanders, Stephen Cathriner, Dean Minear, Gene Bosse and Johnny Touchet.

            Honorary pallbearers are Emory Touchet, Grady Saunders, Jim Bacon, Harold Scarborough, Ed Cathriner, Hampson Herbert, the 1938 Cotton Bowl Rice football team and the Baytown Masonic Lodge.

            Burial will be held at Cedar Crest Cemetery following services. Arrangements are under the direction of Earthman Funeral Directors.
