VANCEBURG—Mary E. Tolle, 88, of Oak Street, passed away with her family by her side Tuesday, June 12, 2012, at 4:05 a.m., at her home after an extended illness.

            Mrs. Tolle was born in Garrison, Sept. 7, 1923, to the late James Leonard and Annie Jane Fyffe Cotten. She was an assistant post master for Garrison, and also was a homemaker and bookkeeper for Gayle Denham. She was a member of the Daughters of American Revolution, and a member of the First Family of Tennessee. She was also a Kentucky Colonel.

            She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Tolle on July 10, 2007; four brothers, John Cotten, Herbert Cotten, William Ernest Cotten and Wilburn Cotten.

            She is survived by two brothers, Oliver Cotten of Florence, Ala., and Harlan Cotten of Maysville; and many nieces and nephews.

            Services will be Thursday, June 14, 2012, at 1 p.m., at Gaydos Funeral Home with Paul Ray Etterling officiating.

            Mary’s most distant and only Alford ancestor is her maternal great-great-grandmother, Annie Alford, 1809 NC–1884 KY, who married John Fyffe.
