GREECE—Friday, October 22, 2004, at age 84. Robert is predeceased by his beloved wife, Hilda. Survived by son, Robert (Ann) Barrows Jr; daughter, Wendy Barrows;3 grandchildren, Christopher & Jennifer Barrows, Clare Warriner.

            Bob was born and raised in Kalamazoo, Michigan. At age 12, he lost his total hearing due to Scarlet fever. He graduated from Kalamazoo College in 1942, and moved to Rochester in 1947. He met his beloved wife, Hilda, and was married in 1948.

            Bob enjoyed working 35 years in the Kodak Research Labs as a research scientist. He was actively involved in the Boy Scouts of America for over 40 years. After retirement, Bob's passion was genealogy. He published numerous books on various branches of the Barrows family tree.

            He was a member of Third Presbyterian Church for over 50 years, and was active with the Landmark Society, the George Eastman House, Memorial Art Gallery, Kalamazoo College Alumni and the Outing/Couples/XY Clubs.

            Bob was very outgoing and enthusiastic. He treasured all of the friendships he made over the years.

            Friends are invited to attend his Memorial Service Wednesday, 2 P.M. in the Chapel of Third Presbyterian Church, East Ave., at Meigs Street.... Interment held at the convenience of family. Arrangements entrusted to: Vay-Schleich & Meeson Funeral Home1075 Long Pond Road.

 

AAFA NOTES: SSDI records show that Robert S. Barrows (SS# issued in MI) was born 13 Nov 1919.

            Bob was the son of Albert Selden Barrows and his first wife, Elsa Hermine Hildner.

            Bob had no Alford ancestors, but his great-aunt, Florence Barrows, m. Robert Morrow Alford, a descendant of John 1696 MD.

            Bob was very interested in Alfords and in AAFA. He was an early contributor to the census project, and he served for years as the AAFA NY State Representative. He and Gil Alford were close friends and corresponded often.
