Arba K. Alford Jr., 88, of Amelia Island, passed
away Aug. 8, 2005. A native of New York, N.Y., he was the son of the late Arba
Kellog Alford and Eleanor Cecilia Smith Alford. He was raised in the New
York/New Jersey area and enrolled at Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio,
in 1934 where he attended until 1936.
He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1942 and
achieved the rank of captain during World War II. During the war he was
assigned duties on the USS Alaska. Upon discharge from the service in 1946, he
went to work with the Esso-Standard Oil Co. and retired in 1980 after a career
as a corporate executive with the Exxon and Mobile Oil Corps.
He was assigned to oversee Employee Relations
Training and he established the Esso Training Center of Europe in Abington,
England.
Moving here in 1980 from Westport, Conn., he
became active in Plantation activities. He was a member of the Amelia Island
Plantation Men's Golf Association and was active in the Amelia Island
Plantation Club.
Survivors include: his wife of 64 years,
Henriette C. Alford; his son and daughter-in-law, James K. and Paula N. Alford
of Great Falls, Va.; his daughter, Judith A. Alford of Great Falls, Va.; and
two granddaughters, Karen L. Alford of Great Falls, Va. and Katherine Ezzes of
New York, N.Y.
A family graveside service will be held later in
the Oak Hill Cemetery in Clermont. Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors.

Arba K. Alford Jr., 88, of Amelia Island died
Monday.
He was a native of New York City and was the son
of the late Arba Kellog Alford and Eleanor Cecilia Smith Alford. He was raised
in the New York-New Jersey area and attended Antioch College in Yellow Springs,
