            Wiley Harrison Crouse, 83, of Plantation Estates in Matthews, went to be with his Lord, Sunday, April 6, 2003.

He was born in Winston Salem, NC, on December 2, 1919 to the late Jacob F. and Etta Walker Crouse and was predeceased by his brother, Jake Crouse and sisters, Elizabeth Walker and Ruth Guerrant.

            Mr. Crouse attended The Citadel and UNC in Chapel Hill. He served five years with the US Army and during WWII served in the Quartermaster Corps. Wiley married Camille Willingham Izlar September 25, 1942, and during their life together had five children and eleven grandchildren; Camille and Jerry Gaddy of Matthews, and their children, Stephanie and Kimberly, Emily and Gary Creech of Norfolk, VA, and their daughter, Rachel, Mollie and Charles Heaton of Matthews, and their children, Shannon and Kristina, Mary Ross and Bill Caldwell of Charlotte, and their children, Bill, Rob , Michael and Stuart, and Harrison and Lindsay Crouse of Charlotte and their children, Keith and Brandon. He was also very proud to have three great-grandchildren.

            Wiley greatly loved and enjoyed his family and they adored him. His quick wit and outstanding humor contributed to the happiness of those around him. Mr. Crouse was a lifelong member of Home Moravian Church in Winston Salem and his childhood home is nearby. He was a descendant of Moravian pioneers including the Winkler family of the well-know Winkler's Bakery. During his younger years, he was active in his church, Scouts, Civitan Club, and the old Charlotte Rescue Squad. He retired from Washington National Insurance Agency and he and Camille lived in the Charlotte Dilworth area for 38 years before moving to Plantation Estates over 13 years ago.

            Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 10, 2003 at the Moravian Graveyard, God's Acre, in Old Salem with The Rev. C. Scott Venable III, Pastor of Home Moravian Church officiating. A Celebration of Wiley's Life will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 26, 2003 at Plantation Estates with Dr. James Doss Peace of Moravian Church officiating.

            Memorial contributions may be given in Wiley's name to Home Moravian Church, Drawer J, Salem Station, Winston Salem, NC 27108, or the Humane Society of Charlotte, P.O. Box 221028, Charlotte, NC 28222.

            Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Gaskin Services in Matthews.

            Wiley and his wife Camille, who also has Alford ancestry, attended AAFA’s 1990 meeting in Raleigh, NC.

            His lineage, from his great-great-grandmother: Margaret 1773 NC5, William 1751 NC6.
