Pages 56-61 Appendix II THE OATH I will bair faithful and true alligance to the State of North Carolina and will Truly Endevour to support maintain and Defend the Independant Goverm't Thereof against George the third King of Grate Brittain and his Sucesers & the attempts of any other persons prince power state or potintate who by secret arts Thrasons Conspirecoys or by open force shall attempt to subject the same and I will in every Respect Conduct my Self as a peasfull orderly subject & that I will Disclose and make known to the Governor som member of the Councill of State or som justice of the superior Courts or the pease all Treason conspireceys and attempts committed or Enteded against the State which Shall come to my knowledge soe help you God.
In the Bute County Court minutes (February 1778) it was ordered that the several justices in the different Districts in the county administer the State oath to the persons in his said District to qualify them to vote for the members in the Election. The following lists were found in the Pittman Papers in a folder marked "Miscellaneous County Records (Bute and Warren), 1774-1804, N.D."
