Remember the subject of the document did not complete death certificates. Except for the specific death information, which is done by the physician, the information on a death certificate is provided by an informant. This informant may, or may not, have really known. In some cases the informant on death certificates will be noted on the AAFA tabulation.

The North Carolina law requiring death registration was not passed until 1913, it was not fully enforced until after World War II. After 1930 all death registrations were required to be filed at the state level. Many are now in the archives.

The following table includes information for some Alford deaths in North Carolina. It is, or will be, limited to those DC's we find on the Internet as we are researching in support of things like the cemetery data base; to obituaries in the AAFA compilation, if we have no DC access; sometimes to social security death data if we know more than just what is provided in the SSDI; and from any other source from which it appears worthwhile. www.ancestry.com does have a file "North Carolina Death Certificates 1909-1975" in which there are over two million records of which it appears about 1000 are Alfords.

This table expands considerably upon the content provided in source. If a death certificate uses initials or a nickname we have tried to provide the official name. In the case of missing or incomplete information we have tried to fill that gap. Links are included when-- applicable to:
